Georgian Court Track and Field Puts a Bow on Outstanding 2026 Outdoor Season

GALLOWAY, NJ (May 8, 2026) - It was quite the year for Georgian Court Track and Field. Both the men's and women's teams won the CACC Conference Championship meet. The teams also rewrote their record books with a number of school record and top-10 performances. The year came to a close this week at a pair of last chance meets. 

West Point
• At West Point on Thursday Malicah Etienne and Mark Linton competed. They both threw the discus and finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh places. Etienne threw 164-0 for sixth place while Linton was seventh throwing 160-5.
• Etienne then threw the shot put as well and finished in fourth place with a mark of 50-0.5.

Sprints / Hurdles
• For the first time this season, Daizhae' Brown tried her hand at 200m. She finished second in the event running 25.66. That time is fourth all-time in Lions history, and puts her in the GCU outdoor top-10 in five events - 100m, 200m, long jump, triple jump, and high jump. 
Shalom Adzakro was an event winner in the 100m hurdles. She ran 15.44 to finish her season.
• Freshman Sophia Mauro ended her outstanding first year putting her name on another top-10 list. She finished third in the 400m dash, running 1:01.72. That moves her to 10th all-time in the event. She also joins Jessica Handsaker as the only women on the outdoor top-10 list in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m.
James McCoy and Gary Boyd, Jr. finished back-to-back in the men's 400m dash. McCoy ran 52.30 for fifth place and Boyd was at 53.00 for sixth. 
• They both then also ran the 200m. Boyd, Jr. finished ninth running 23.43 while McCoy was 13th running 24.09. 

Jumps
• CACC Champion Daizhae' Brown had a career day in the long jump. She jumped a personal-best 19-2.50 which won the competition. She also moved to third all-time in Lions history and became just the fourth Lion to ever jump 19 feet. It's also the third-best jump in the region. 
Sigurlaug Sveinsdottir took third in the long jump with her mark of 16-10. 
Chuck Smith competed for GCU in the men's long jump. He took eighth place with his mark of 20-2.50. 
Shona Mutokuto had a second place finish in the triple jump. He had a mark of 43-8.50. Matthew Sutton was one spot behind in third place jumping 43-5.0. 

Throws
Cameren Anderson and Malicah Etienne were the top two collegiate finishers in the shot put. Anderson set a big personal-best for second place throwing 53-3.75 on his third attempt. That moves him to fifth all-time in Lions history.
• Etienne had his best throw ever outdoors. He finished third throwing 52-8.25.
• There were three shot putters setting season-bests on the final day of the year. Sigurlaug Sveinsdottir was the third as she threw 40-1.50 for third place. It's her first time throwing 40 feet and moved to eighth all-time at GCU. 
• Etienne also came back and threw the discus along with Mark Linton. Linton won the event throwing 167-11 while Etienne finished fourth at 157-2. 
Adrianna Fodera took part in two throwing events. In the first, she finished eighth in the hammer throw with her mark of 125-7. She then took sixth in the shot put throwing 37-10.5.
Amir Spruell-Everson threw the hammer for the men and finished sixth at 152-0. 
Chiamaka Wokocha was just a little short of a PR in the discus. She threw 130-1 for third place in the event. 

Distance
• The men's 800m saw the Lions take the first three place. Ryan Pettrow was the event winning, breaking the tape in 1:59.47.
• Behind Pettrow, Stephen Lane and Zachary Spoonire were separated by just 0.04 seconds. Lane ran 2:00.09 for second place and Spoonire 2:00.13 for third.
• Running at 800m on the women's side, seniors Samantha Lonseth and Kerry Ann Hohenshilt placed sixth and seventh. Lonseth ran 2:58.53 while Hohenshilt finished up in 3:00.85. 
• Fellow senior Brenna Sullivan ran at 1500m. She finished in 6:07.95 for fifth place. 
Nolan Kus ran in the 5,000m and took fourth in 16:42.66.

Linton and Etienne are the Lions with an NCAA qualifying mark in an event, both reaching that in the discus. Last season, there were 22 who competed at the NCAA Championship meet in the discus. Heading into the meet, Linton ranked 24th in the nation and Etienne was 30th. Selections for the meet being held May 21-23 will be announced this coming Tuesday, May 12.
