Lions Pick Up Where They Left Off ... Defeat University of Mary, 4-2

KISSIMMEE, FL- After a much-deserved day off, the Georgian Court University softball team returned to action Friday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games, defeating the University of Mary, 4-2.

The Lions (8-1), batting .338 as a squad, continued right where they left off, jumping out to a 2-0 advantage in the first inning. Leadoff hitter, Jess Comiskey (pictured), led off the game with a double just out off the reach of UMary CF Jenna Button (SO., Menifee, CA). SS Sammie Jo Garofalo proceeded to rip a single off starting pitcher Ashley Watson's (Jr.-Qualicum Beach, BC) knee, advancing Comiskey to third base. After a double steal that brought Comiskey in for the first score, DP Brooke Hull lined a single to left-center, plating Garofalo from second base.

Diana Sansevera (5-0) allowed a lead-off bunt single to Button before sitting down the next nine Marauders in a row. The hurler ran into her first trouble of the contest in the top of the fourth inning as UMary tied the contest at 2-2. RF Jessica Alvarado (Fr.-Rialto, CA) led off the frame with a bunt single. Sanservera sat down the next two batters before walking 3B Sami Antolin (Jr.-Campbell, CA). DH Cierra Walters (Fr.-Scottsdale, AZ) drove in Alvarado as she dropped a single into shallow right. Jen Tartaglia kicked the ball out of reach as she dived for the hit, permitting Antolin to come in all the way from first base.

Georgian Court took back the advantage in the top of the sixth inning. C Donnie Brossoie and LF Chelsea Long led off with back-to-back walks. Comiskey advanced them both with a sacrifice bunt before Garofalo broke the stalemate with a liner to left field, making the score 3-2 and chasing Watson  from the game. A sacrfice fly from 2B Rachel Ruch off reliever Brooke Hageness (So.-Libby, MT) increased the advantage to 4-2.
