LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Georgian Court University soccer club, after establishing a 3-0 advantage less than 10 minutes into Saturday afternoon's contest, made very quick work of visiting Concordia College, eventually dismissing the CACC foe by a 7-0 score.
Kelly Lyons tallied two goals to take over the team lead with seven goals while
Amber Schlosser netted her fifth of the season.
Five other Lions earned their first points of the season in the lopsided affair.
Tara Troisi scored the first goal of her GCU career and put the home team up, 1-0, when she headed home a
Becky Witmer corner kick at 2:17. The assist marked Witmer's first point of the year and first of two assists on the afternoon. She also set up Lyons at 6:22 on a free kick to make it a 2-0 advantage.
Candace Seaton provided the dish on Schlosser's goal at 9:26, which increased the lead to 3-0 before scoring the Lions' fourth of the day (and her first of the campaign) on a Troisi pass at 23:08. The assist represented Troisi's first GCU assist, as well.
Carleigh Gorman contributed her first collegiate goal on
Megan Sherman's first collegiate assist at 50:10, increasing the lead to 6-0.
Shealyn Sullivan (45:00, one save) and
Erika Aponte (45:00, two saves) teamed up in net for Georgian Court for the combined shutout.
The Lions, winners of four straight, improve to 5-4 overall (5-2 CACC) while Concordia stumbles to a 2-8 mark (0-7 CACC).
GCU returns to action Wednesday afternoon when they host Queens College at 3:30 PM.
