LAKEWOOD, NJ-The Georgian Court University soccer club welcomed Holy Family University to campus for the first time since the 2010 CACC championship game last November, Tuesday afternoon. History would repeat itself as the Lions dropped the visiting Tigers by an identical 2-1 score in this clash between the two CACC titans.
After a scoreless first stanza, CACC Player of the Week
Farrell Pomponio gave the Lions a 1-0 advantage when she tallied her fifth score of the season at 48:37, knocking home a dish from teammate
Kelly Lyons. Pomponio's goal ties her with Lyons for the team lead.
The GCU advantage would increase to 2-0 at 69:28 when
Nicole Petrosino buried a screaming shot from near the 18 for her first goal of the year. Lyons picked up her second assist of the game and third of the season on the play.
Holy Family's
Megan Tole (Jr.-Philadelphia, PA), always a thorn in GCU's side, put the Tigers (3-4, 1-3 CACC) on the board at 71:20 with her third goal of the year, but that would be as close as the visitors would get in the contest.
GCU's
Shealyn Sullivan earned the victory in net, collecting six saves on nine Holy Family shots.
Rachel Dunkle (Jr.-Blandon, PA) was tagged with the loss as the Tigers' netminder, collecting one save on 10 GCU shots in the effort.
Georgian Court (4-4, 4-2 CACC), winners of three straight, return to the pitch Saturday afternoon when they host Concordia College at 1:00 PM.
