PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –The Georgian Court University cross country squad, after a subpar season last year, returned to prominence Sunday morning with a second-place finish in the 2012 CACC Championship meet held at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia University claimed the CACC Women’s Cross Country crown for the fifth consecutive year after placing four athletes among the top-nine runners in a field of 85 and finishing with a total score of 44, 37 points ahead of second-place finisher Georgian Court University.
Three Lions earned All-CACC accolades after placing in the meet's Top-15, including Isalin Howard (8th overall, 20:47), 2009 CACC Rookie of the Year Justine Berger (10th, 20:53), and Cynthia Cuiule (14th, 21:12). For Berger, the finish was especially sweet as the GCU senior missed the entire 2011 campaign due to injury. Howard and Cuiule both achieved All-CACC honors for the second straight season.
Rounding out Georgian Court's Top-7 were the freshman duo of Jamie Hand (17th, 21:28) and Laura Amdur (32nd, 22:48), senior Allison Landry (36th, 22:53) and sophomore Megan Kelly (41st, 23:15).
Wilmington sophomore Althea Davidson (New Castle, Del.) qualified as the CACC Women’s Runner of the Year following a first-place showing and a time of 19:00 - 1:04 ahead of the rest of the field.
Philadelphia freshman Alyssa Litty (Marlton, N.J.) garnered the CACC Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year honor after registering a time of 20:04, which was good enough for a second-place overall showing.
Nyack’s Latia Deylii was selected as the CACC Women’s Coach of the Year and the Warriors were the recipients of the Anne Jackson Memorial Women’s Cross Country Team Sportsmanship Award.
The remaining All-CACC qualifiers include: Brianna Ligotski (USciences), Jeanette Halliburton (Wilmington), Taylor Falvey (Philadelphia), Emilie Barton (Philadelphia), Carolina Cassin (Dominican), Chelsea Attaway (Philadelphia), Jennifer Boyle (Holy Family), Pamela Code (Nyack), Tori Trador (Nyack), and Jordan Lyons (USciences).
Next up for the Lions will be NCAA Division II East Regional Championship Meet, which will take place in Nashua, N.H. on November 3rd.
