Lions Leave Florida With Ten Wins After Sweep of Lock Haven, Minot State

OCOEE, FL- The Georgian Court University Lions concluded a sensational week in Florida Saturday morning as the Lions defeated east regional opponent Lock Haven University (PA) and Minot State University (ND) to secure a 10-2 record (10-4 overall) at this year's NTC Training Center Games.

GAME ONE

The day started with a key 9-5 victory over Lock Haven, the 2009 NCAA Division II national champions. The Lions tallied four runs in the third inning, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth frame to run away with the victory.

Brooke Hull had an outstanding day at the plate and in the circle as she went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and three RBI. She also improved her pitching record to 6-3, allowing five runs (3 ER) on seven hits and two walks. The GCU ace also struck out two.

SS Ashlynn Thompson collected a season-high three hits (3-for-4) with two runs scored and a double. C Christina Masitti ripped her second triple of the week with a 2-for-4 showing while 2B Rachel Ruch went 2-for-3 with the bat.


Lock Haven RF/P, Alyssa Smith (Jr.-Barrington, NH), provided all of her club's offense with a two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run shot in the seventh frame.


GAME TWO 

Illiana Teran out-dueled  Minot State University's Tiffany Friesen (Jr.-Morden, Manitoba) in the Florida finale as the Lions defeated the Beavers, 2-1.  

Teran scattered four hits and a walk, while striking out one, in the complete-game effort. She improves to 4-1 on the year.

GCU could only muster three hits against Friesen (7.0 IP, 3H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K), but one of them included a two-run dinger from Hull in the top of the fourth inning, stamping the triumph for Georgian Court.  It marked the first home run by the Lions in 14 games this season.

GCU returns north and next plays on Saturday, March 17 for a twin-bill at the University of New Haven.
