Lakewood, N.J.- The 2013 campaign came to a close for the #3-seed Georgian Court University women's soccer squad as #6 Philadelphia University upset the host-Lions, 3-0, in Tuesday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament quarterfinals, on Investor's Savings Bank Field.
GCU concludes the season with a mark of 10-6-3 while the Lady Rams (7-9-3) advance to play #2 Caldwell College in Thursday's CACC semifinals, hosted by Wilmington University. #1 Holy Family University will take on #5 Dominican College in the other semifinal match.
Philadelphia's
Michaela Van Antwerp (Jr.-Andover, Mass.) initiated the scoring at 15:46 when she knocked in her own rebound off a
Kristen Ferguson (Sr.-Haddonfield, N.J.) feed. The two players switched roles for the Lady Rams' second tally as Ferguson sent in a Van Antwerp attempt at 68:33.
Andrea Neski (Fr.-Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) put the affair out of reach when she gathered the ball from a sprawled Casey O'Connor and deposited the clincher.
Courtney Shaw (So.-Langhorne, Pa.) gathered six saves in the Philly goal to earn the victory. O'Connor compiled ten saves in the GCU net in the tough-luck defeat. The Lady Rams outshot GCU by a 21-11 margin while the Lions owned a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The defeat ends Georgian Court's streak of reaching the CACC semifinals at eight consecutive seasons,
