Lions Close Florida Trip with 4-3 Besting of Bentley University

Clermont, Fla.-The Georgian Court University softball team concluded its nine-day, 12-game journey to the Sunshine State Saturday afternoon with a 4-3 triumph over Bentley University (Mass.), The Lions, who finish the trip 3-9, opened the day with a 7-1 defeat vs. Southern Connecticut State University.

GAME ONE

The Owls posted a three-spot in both the third and fifth innings and an insurance tally in the home sixth as Southern Connecticut (3-3) cruised to the 7-1 triumph over the Lions.

A two-run double from 2B Kate Hoffman (Sr.-Orange, Conn.) highlighted SCSU's third inning assault while a single from SS Nicole Buch (So.-Darien, Conn.) and a two-run double by RF Nora Crann (So.-West Orange, N.J.) provided the Owls' offensive spark in the fifth frame. 

Georgian Court plated its lone run in the top of the seventh on a ribbie groundout to second base by C Meghan Sfraga.

Kelsey Cockrill (So.-Haymarket, Va.) went the distance for SCSU to earn the victory (7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 E, 1 ER, ) BB, 7 K) while GCU's Deanna Daluise fell to 0-3 on the young season with the defeat (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 BB).

SS Briana Molino (2-for-3, R) collected both Georgian Court hits.


GAME TWO 

After exchanging a run each in the second inning, Bentley University (0-1) developed a 3-1 advantage in the top of the third after a two-run single by SS Alex Borrelli (Fr.-Salem, N.H.). After a scoreless bottom of the third for the Lions, Georgian Court fired off a run in each of the next three frames with the game-winner coming via dropped fly ball by Bentley's centerfielder.

RF Vanessa Flores was the offensive star for Georgian Court, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, including a huge ribbie triple in the second inning. CF Dara Schroeder (2-for-4, R) and Molino (2-for-4) enjoyed multi-hit efforts.

Kristina Morgan (2-4) earned the victory out of the Lions' bullpen (4.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB). Bentley's Kelly Ferris (Fr.-Seymour, Conn.) suffered the tough-luck defeat for the Falcons (2.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K).

The Lions return home on Wednesday to host UMass-Lowell for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
