New Haven, Conn.- Georgian Court University's
Lizzy Kroon (Fr.-Bayville, N.J.) has been selected as the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Rookie of the Year while teammate
Jamie Smith (Sr.- Welland, Ontario) earned All-CACC Second-Team accolades in an announcement released by the conference office Monday morning.
Kroon, who was also selected to the All-CACC Second-Team, becomes the first GCU player to receive Rookie of the Year honors since
Kelly Lyons (2008-11) took home the award back in 2008. Lizzy, a two-time CACC Rookie of the Week pick during the season, tallied 10 goals and 23 points, which both ranked 4th overall among conference leaders. It was the most successful offensive campaign for a Georgian Court player since Lyons registered 15 goals and 34 points during her senior year of 2011.
Lizzy topped the 10-5-3 Lions with three game-winning tallies and scored two goals in a game on three seperate occasions, including: September 6 vs. the University of New Haven (Win 4-1), September 13 at Bloomfield College (Win 3-0), and October 7 vs. Lincoln University (Win 4-1).
Smith, a First-Team defender in 2013, anchored a Georgian Court backline that permitted only 16 goals (3rd CACC) in 18 total contests, earned a 0.85 goals-against average (2nd), and kept opponents scoreless in seven matches.
