WATERBURY, Conn. – The 2014 campaign came to an abrupt end for the #6 Georgian Court University women's soccer team Thursday afternoon as the Lions dropped a 2-1 decision to #2 Post University in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals.

The Eagles now advance to its first-ever CACC Championship game (vs. Philadelphia University) on Saturday with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.

Junior Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) scored her first of two goals on the day in the 49th minute. Sophomore Sylvia Yanez (North Haven, Conn.) fed a pass to Carroll through tight coverage in front of the net to setup the score.

The Lions took control from there, outshooting the Eagles 7-0 over the next 10 minutes, but tremendous defensive play by the Post back line led by junior Misty Kaiwi (Waiphu, Hawaii) and sophomore Brooke Lawlor (Rocky Hill, Conn.); and goalkeeper Brittany Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) kept the score 1-0.

Carroll struck again in the 78th minute to put Post in front 2-0. After the Lions tried to clear the ball, Carroll took over possession just outside the box and launched a high lofting shot that just crossed the line for the score.

Georgian Court (10-6-4) scored late on a Kerry Ann Strohmeier (Sr.-Manahawkin, N.J.) penalty kick after the Eagles were called for a handball in the box, but Post clamped down defensively with help from sophomore Valerie Moore (Bloomfield, Conn.) and senior Brina Yanez (North Haven, Conn.) and Shannon Bahme (Naugatuck, Conn.) to secure the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Laura Morgan (Brush Prairie, Wash.) held the Lions scoreless in the first half. Carroll picked up her eighth victory in net with three second-half saves.

Post (12-4-1) will face the top-seeded Rams, which defeated Felician College, 1-0, in the other semifinal match, for the title on Saturday, Nov. 8 at LaMoy Field at 11 a.m.
