Megan Sherman Selected as Georgian Court's 2015 NJAIAW Woman of the Year

LAKEWOOD, NJ-  Women's Soccer student-athlete Megan Sherman has been named Georgian Court University's recipient of the 2015 New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year Award.

Sherman and her fellow New Jersey institutional and high school honorees will be the guests of honor at the annual NJAIAW Woman of the Year luncheon this Sunday, February 1. Held at Seton Hall University, each winner will be recognized at halftime of the Pirates' women's basketball game against St. John's University in the Richie Regan Recreation Center.

Held in celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, each Woman of the Year recipient has made significant contributions to her institution and community through athletic accomplishments, academic success, and community involvement.

"I am extremely proud of Megan and all of her accomplishments," said Georgian Court's women's soccer coach Jim Moore, "She has grown and matured so much in her time here at GCU. She is a tremendous person and is more than worthy of this wonderful distinction."

Sherman, a senior, owns a 3.37 cumulative grade-point average as a Psychology major, and in the fall of 2014, earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. The native of Mays Landing, N.J. is an executive board member of the Georgian Court Student Athlete Advisory Committee and has participated in numerous community outreach programs such as the Make A Wish Foundation and Soccer Sisters, while aiding with the collection of donations to be sent to America's active military men and women serving abroad.

NGWSD celebrates the athletic achievements of women and the positive well-being associated with sports participation while also recognizing the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports. Georgian Court University will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day this Saturday, January 31, with events starting at 11 a.m., which includes a GCU basketball doubleheader vs.Nyack College (1:00 and 3:00).
