Queens, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer team continues to demonstrate endless resiliency as the Lions battled back from a first-half deficit, eventually securing a 1-1 non-conference draw Thursday afternoon at Queens College.
GCU, now unbeaten in eight straight contests, improves to 7-1-1 on the year. The Knights moves their mark to 3-3-2. The tie marks the Lions' first regular season stalemate since tying this very Queens' club, 0-0, last October 21st on Investors Savings Bank Field.
The home team struck first with 1:26 remaining in the opening half when
Megan DeRosa (So.-Cornwall, N.Y.) drilled a
Nicolette Scrozzo (Sr.-Smithtown, N.Y.) helper into the top right corner of the Lions' net.
A costly infraction by the Knights at 78:23 provided GCU the opportunity to tee up a penalty kick, which senior
Tori Capestro promptly deposited to knot the score.
Casey O'Connor, currently leading the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with a 0.43 goals-against average and an .889 save percentage, secured four saves in 110:00 of action in the Georgian Court net.
The Lions outshot the Knights, 14-9, but Queens owned a 3-2 advantage in 20 minutes of overtime.
Georgian Court returns to conference play with a big Homecoming Day home contest vs. Felician College. Start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
