Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad continues to fire on all cylinders as the Lions remain undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play (10-0-1), compiling a second straight overpowering 2-0 triumph, this time vs. visiting Wilmington University Tuesday afternoon on Investors Savings Bank Field.
On a day the Lions honored the illustrious collegiate careers of seniors
Tori Capestro,
Tuere Chisholm-Thomas,
Rachel Marino,
Casey O'Connor and
Katie Vecchio, it would be two of these honorees that would go on and play vital roles in the contest.
After a 0-0 first stanza, it would be Marino that would snap the stretch of stagnant scoring as the senior belted a free-ball into the bottom right corner to give the Lions an initial 1-0 advantage at 66:10.
Tayler Bramley was credited with the assist on Marino's seventh tally on the year.
Lizzy Kroon, the conference-leader in points, picked a perfect time to snap her goal-scoring cold spell (four games) as the sophomore found the back of the net in breakaway fashion at 87:41, putting the home team comfortably ahead, 2-0. Kroon's 16th scoring effort of the season ties her for the CACC lead with Wilmington's
Loran Wyrough.
Bramley earned her second helper of the afternoon on the play.Â
O'Connor continues to dominate between the GCU pipes, collecting her CACC-leading 11th shutout of the year, needing only one save to do so. The senior save specialist tops the conference in save percentage (.882), goals-against average (0.52) and goals allowed (9).
Combining the statistics from Saturday's 2-0 blanking of Post University, the Lions have outshot their opponents, 38-6, over the two outings.
Georgian Court improves to a mighty 13-2-2 overall while the Wildcats wimper to an 8-6-1 mark (8-2-1 CACC).
The Lions will next travel to Caldwell University Thursday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. conference showdown, marking GCU's regular-season finale. Â The date is a make-up from a rainout back on October 10th.
