Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University softball squad, playing on its home diamond for the first time since March 13, hosted Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Wilmington University, Tuesday afternoon dropping a pair to the visiting Wildcats by scores of 9-2 and 8-4.
GAME ONE (Boxscore)Wilmington (14-12, 9-1 CACC) compiled a quick 4-0 lead after plating a run in the first and three more in the second frame of the opener. A
Taylor Boltersdorf RBI infield single and a run-inducing walk by
Bryana Smith sliced the GCU deficit to 4-2 in the home half of the second inning.
The pair of tallies would be the only ones the Lions would earn in this contest as the Wildcats brought around three in the sixth and two more in the seventh to secure the easy conference triumph.
Caitlyn Whiteside (Fr.-Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) earned the win for Wilmington, providing five innings of scoreless relief (4 H, 1 BB, 4 K) for the victors.
Angela Lakatos suffered the GCU defeat in the circle (6.2 IP, 14 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K).
Stefanie Aplin (2-for-4) earned the Lions' lone multi-hit effort in the outing.
GAME TWO (Boxscore)The Wildcats continued its momentum in the nightcap with a three-spot in the top of the first stanza. Georgian Court erased all but one of those initial Wilmington tallies as
Molly Jackson rocked a two-run double to right-center in the home half of the first to make the score 3-2 after the initial frame.
Unfortunately, the Lions could not avoid the crooked number as Wilmington collected three runs in the second and two more in the sixth to take a comfortable 8-3 surplus after five-and-a-half.
Shannon Brantley (So.-Bear, Del.) garnered the win for Wilmington out of the bullpen, yielding two runs (2 ER) on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.
Jessica O'Neil was saddled with the loss for Georgian Court (5.1 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K).
The Lions next take to the road Thursday afternoon with a CACC twin-bill at Holy Family University.
