Clermont, Fla.- Thursday proved to be a tough pill to swallow as Georgian Court University softball fell to 0-8 at the 2016 PFX Spring Games with the Lions succumbing to Wheeling Jesuit University and Lake Erie College in a pair of extremely frustrating setbacks .
GAME ONE (Boxscore)The Lions were unable to carry the positive mojo provided by
Kelly Hardiman's stellar pitching performance as four GCU miscues led to three unearned runs, providing Wheeling Jesuit a 6-3 triumph over Georgian Court.
The Cardinals (5-2) plated lone runs in the first, third, and fourth frames before GCU sliced the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the fifth, courtesy of an
Alycia Marsello two-run double that dropped down the left-field line. The two tallies snapped a 15-inning scoring slump, dating back to the Lions' contest vs. St. Anselm College the previous day.
Unfortunately, the WJU lineup would counter immediately in the home half of the inning as the Cardinals brought around three runs on three hits and two Georgian Court mishaps to secure the advantage.
Mallory Chapman (So.-New Martinsville, W. Va.) went the distance for Wheeling Jesuit to earn the decision, permitting three runs (0 ER) on seven hits (4 K).
Hardiman (0-1) was the tough luck loser for Georgian Court as the junior yielded six runs (3 ER) on nine hits (5 K).
Alex Garcia (2-for-4) and
Mikaela Power (2-for-3, R) achieved multi-hit efforts for GCU while Hardiman (1-for-3) crunched a double to the left-center gap for the Lions.
GAME TWO (Boxscore)The nightcap proved to not be recommended viewing for the faint of heart as Georgian Court and Lake Erie College battled through 10 innings with the Storm (6-2) eventually leaving the Lions wet, 4-2.

Angela Lakatos. Georgian Court knotted the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth as
Stefanie Aplin plated the tally following a Storm defensive blunder.
The two squads would trade zeros for the next three frames before Lake Erie cracked the stalemate in the top of the ninth, as a sacrifice fly and subsequent single plated pinch-runner
Alexis Kane (Fr. Hillard, Ohio) from second base.
Not to be outdone, the Lions manufactured the tying tally in the bottom of the ninth. With Lakatos starting the stanza at second base,
Taylor Boltersdorf dropped down a bunt single to advance the baserunner to third.
Bryana Smith proceeded to rap a ground ball to third base. Lakatos appeared to be hung out to dry on the third-base line, but the freshman jarred a throw out of the Lake Erie catcher's mitt to score a the dramatic tying run.
The Storm intensified in the top of the tenth, plating two runs on two hits to secure the wild affair.
Georgian Court played stellar defense, yielding zero errors in the contest, but the Lions' bats could not cash in on its baserunners, stranding 15 total on base in the setback.
The game was the longest for Georgian Court since May 3, 2014 when GCU outlasted Holy Family University, 6-5, in 10 frames for a CACC Championship Tournament victory.
Allyson Deemer (Fr.-Poland, Ohio) earned the win in relief for Lake Erie, permitting one run (0 ER) on five hits and four walks in 4.1 IP. Lakatos (0-2) was dynamite for Georgian Court as the freshman went all 10 innings (4 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 2 K).
Georgian Court returns to action late Friday with key regional contests vs. Lock Haven University (5:00 p.m.) and The College of St. Rose (7:00 p.m.).
