Clermont, Fla.- The Georgian Court University softball squad now has just one day remaining to escape the Sunshine State with a victory as the Lions were unable to accomplish the feat Friday evening, falling to Lock Haven University (10-1, 5 inn.) and The College of St, Rose (8-7).
GAME ONE (Boxscore)Â GCU's first contest of the evening was over soon after it started as Lock Haven plated runs in all four innings they batted, including a dagger-like five-spot in the home half of the fourth inning.
In contrast, the Lions were unable to muster a single base hit in the game as GCU pushed across its lone run  in the third frame.
Molly Jackson led off the inning with a base-on-balls before advancing to second on a wild pitch. A
Bryana Smith sacrifice bunt pushed Jackson to third. She then came in on a booted groundball by the Lock Haven third-sacker.
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Jr.-Endicott, N.Y.) earned the unorthodox no-no for the Bald Eagles (4-4), yielding the one unearned tally in five full frames (3 BB, 6 K).
Amanda Finn (0-3) last just one inning in her start, allowing three runs (2 ER) on two hits and three walks.
GAME TWO (Boxscore)In what would qualify as the wackiest game of the team's Florida trek, GCU's offense rebounded from its hitless performance in the opener by ripping 12 knocks in the nightcap. Unfortunately, as has been the case too often on the week, the Lions' leather played a vital role in the outcome by yielding six errors, resuting in seven unearned runs for St. Rose (1-1).
The two squads exchanged runs in the second inning before the Golden Knights plated five more in the top of the third, courtesy of three hits and four Georgian Court gacks. GCU responded in the bottom half of the third by cutting the deficit to 6-3, highlighted by a
JoLei Buonanno ribbie single.
St. Rose seemingly pulled away with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, increasing its surplus to a commanding 8-3 mark. The Lions had other ideas, however, as GCU exploded four runs on five hits, ultimately falling just short of the stalemate. Highlights of the frantic frame included run-inducing singles off the bats of
Caroline Abin and
Brianna LaFiura.
Golden Knights' starting pitcher
Renee Vaiano (Jr.-Massapequa, N.Y.) earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs (2 ER) on six hits and two walks (3 K).
Nicole Wickman (Sr.-Greenville, N.Y.) came on to garner the save (0.2 IP, 2 H).
Jessica O'Neil dropped to 0-4 on the young season for the Lions, permitting seven runs (1 ER) on seven hits and two free passes.
GCU closes out its 12-game tour Saturday afternoon with regional face-offs vs. Dowling College (1:00 p.m.) and Kutztown University (3:00 p.m.).
