Bronxville, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University softball squad, playing its fourth of five scheduled twin-bills on the week, trekked to Concordia College Saturday afternoon, suffering a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep at the hands of the host-Clippers.
Concordia (16-9, 12-6 CACC) made quick work of the Lions in the opener by blanking the road team, 6-0.
Sarah Ross (So.-Dunmore, Pa.) produced a complete-game five-hitter for the Clippers, while walking one and sitting down five by way of the "K".
Angela Lakatos suffered the defeat for GCU, allowing four runs on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
The Lions jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first frame of the nightcap before Concordia countered with three of their own in the third. GCU, courtesy of a run-inducing fielder's choice by
Alex Garcia and an RBI single by
Bryana Smith, knotted the affair at 4-4.
That is the way it would stay until the eighth inning when Georgian Court attacked for two runs in the top of the stanza as a result of a two-run knock by
JoLei Buonanno. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be for the GCU nine as the home team responded with three in the bottom half to walk off the Lions.
Cassidy Gorgo (So.-Millville, N.J.) snared the win in relief for Concordia (1.0 IP, H, BB) while Lakatos was stuck with her second loss of the afternoon as the freshman was unable to record an out in her relief appearance (0.0 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER).
Smith carried the GCU offense in the lead-off spot, going 3-for-4 with two runs and a ribbie.
Georgian Court concludes a marathon week Sunday afternoon as the Lions play a pair at Bloomfield College.
