Staten Island, N.Y. -Ending a month-long holiday hiatus, the Georgian Court University men's & women's track & field squad returned to action Friday afternoon with an appearance in the Saint Thomas Aquinas College Invitational, hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Seeing action for the first time since Dec. 7 (Wagner College Shootout), the Georgian Court men registered a second-place showing (out of 21 entries) while the women opened 2019 with a 14th-place finish (out of 22).
In men's action, participants needed hard hats in the 200m Dash as three Lions' crumbled the team-record of 23.12 seconds (
Michael Rogers, Feb. 14, 2014).
Charles Wolef-Fields etched his name in the GCU annals with a third-place time of 22.26 seconds.
Ian Knapp followed with a finish of 22.63 while
Emeron Hernandez-Mayers crossed the line at 22.76.
Chukwuebizie Anuamadi topped all-comers in the 800m Run with a blazing time of 1:58.04 while
Hussein Elmeshad smashed his own team record in the 3,000m Run (9:10.35, Jan. 19, 2017) with a second-place time of 8:57.63.
Devin Martin collected a second-place finish of 8.47 seconds in the 60m High Hurdles to close out action on the track for the Lions.
In field competition,
Evan Boyce soared to a first-place height of 4.25 meters while
Dylan Breen topped his previous team-high (6.84m, Dec. 7, 2018) in the Long Jump with a fourth-place leap of 6.98 meters.
Ryan Roger showed off his strength as the sophomore heaved a second-place effort of 15.47 meters in the Shot Put.
In women's action,
Charisma Bosley enjoyed a Top-10 finish (9th) with a time of 9.03 seconds in the 60m Dash. Speedster,
Aretha Edwards, clocked a sixth-place time of 26.23 seconds in the 200m Dash while
Jennifer Tregillies took 12th overall in the 800m Run with her effort of 2:28.84.
The Lions now set their sights on January 18 as the team travels to the Buckeye State of Ohio to participate in the Youngstown State University College Invitational.
