Bethpage, N.Y. - Georgian Court University returned to cross country competition for the first time in almost two years Friday afternoon as the Lions placed 10th overall in the Adelphi Panthers Invitational at Bethpage State Park. The GCU harriers last saw action on November 9, 2019 in the NCAA East Regional Championships.
The Lions totaled 282 points with an average time of 24:44.00 on the 5K course. Southern Connecticut State University earned the meet title with a first-place point total of 53 overall points.
Amirah Beasley, in her collegiate debut for the royal and gold, topped Georgian Court with a time of 23:58.50 (52nd overall). The junior duo of
Rachel Pausz (24:11.80) and
Ashlee Pataky (24:22.80) finished close behind, placing 54th and 56th, respectively.
Madalin Jones took 57th overall in her Georgian Court debut with a finish of 24:26.00 while
Alina Chant closed out the GCU entries with her time of 26:41.00 (63rd overall).
"The team ran a small squad today as we are still getting back into the swing of things after almost two years away," stated head coach
Mike Murawski. "They listened to the game plan and executed it well. We will look to build on it each week."
Georgian Court will next see action on Saturday, Sept. 11 with an appearance in the Philadelphia Metropolitan Invite, hosted by Jefferson.
