Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's track & field squad collected the sixth outdoor title in program history (second straight) as the Lions topped the field in the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Outdoor Championship Meet.
GCU compiled 240 total points to earn this year's crown as the Lions dominated the competition. Wilmington University placed second with 134 points, followed by Holy Family University with 104 overall. The meet opened Saturday with the running of the men's and women's 10,000m Run. A miserable day of weather permitted only the track events on Sunday with all field events pushed to Wednesday.
Seven different Lions landed gold medal performances in the championship effort. On the track,
Wayne Robinson placed first overall in the 400m dash (50.16 seconds).
Xavier Seals, Georgian Court's Male Athlete of the Year, topped all-comers (4:08.69) in the 1,500m Run.
Kyle Spector, the only Lion with multiple first-place showings on the day, broke his own team record in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a finish of 9:51.46 while pacing all competitors in the 800m Run (1:57.04). The sophomore speedster initially set his previous program-best in the Steeplechase (10:08.42) last year in the 2021 CACC Championship Meet.
The aforementioned Robinson also etched his name in the GCU annals with a record-breaking time of 22.11 seconds (2nd-place) in the 200m, eclipsing the time of 22.20 set by teammate
Noah Roach last month (Apr. 29) in the TCNJ Lions Invite.
In field action,
Jan Volkmar earned his first-career CACC individual crown as the freshman soared to gold medal height of 4.70 meters. Fellow newcomer,
Julian Rodriguez, finished third in the event at 4.25m.
Dylan Breen (6.95m) and
Jeshurun Devero (14.30m) enjoyed second-place leaps, respectively, in the Long Jump and the Triple Jump.
Robbie Babson (16.32m) and
Alejandro Valdez (15.30m) finished 1-2 in the Shot Put. Valdez also placed second in the Discus (40.21m) while taking third in the Hammer Throw (44.19m). It would be a clean sweep in the Javelin for the Lions as
Joseph Sauchelli (59.06m),
Kyle Muir (54.71m), and
Krzysztof Paczesny (53.78m) placed 1 through 3.
