Box Score 2 MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (March 17, 2023) - Despite being shorthanded due to injury and illness, Georgian Court Softball kept rolling along picking up a doubleheader sweep against Millersville. The story in game number one was
Kaitlyn Stufft who clubbed three home runs for the first time in her career. The long balls kept flying in game two as GCU clubbed four more to pick up the sweep. With the two wins, Georgian Court moves to 13-7 on the year.
Game 1 - Georgian Court 15, Millersville 4
How it Happened
• Georgian Court scored 15 runs on 16 hits. Millersville scored four while collecting seven hits.
• Half of the Lions hits went for extra bases with three doubles, two triple and three home runs.
• Each team left five runners on base and each team's pitchers issued four walks.
• GCU did not commit an error in the field. Millersville made two leading to just one unearned run.
• After two scoreless innings, the Lions got on the board with a five-run third. Following a strikeout to start the inning, five straight Lions reached and scored.
Savannah Simons started it with a two-run triple to right.
Jayda Jones followed with a run-scoring double and Stufft delivered her first home run of the game.
• Millersville closed the gap a bit with a two-run homer of their own in the bottom of the inning.
• GCU though scored in each of the last five innings.

Jadalynn Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
• In the home half of the fourth it was the Lions defense that flashed. The Marauders put the first two runners on base and it was Simons who ended the threat fielding a ground ball to her right, stepping on second and throwing to first for an inning-ending double play.
• Stufft popped her second long ball in the fifth, a solo shot to make it a 7-2 game.
• With two outs in the sixth, Jones added two more runs with a double to center. Then it was Stufft again, a line drive home run to left center for an 11-2 lead.
• Millersville added two in the bottom of the seventh to avoid a run-rule ending, but that just meant another inning for the Lions to add to their total. With one on and one out, Rodriguez laced a triple to right center to score a run. She then scored herself on a
Camille Dunham's infield single. A wild pitch moved Dunham to second and that allowed her to score on Simons' RBI single to left.
• Jones took the first pitch from new Millersville pitcher Lopez and drive it to right center for her fourth RBI of the game. That gave Stufft a chance for her fourth home run of the game, but Millersville had seen enough and walked her with first base open.
Lions Stat Leaders
• One through four in the lineup went a combined 10-18 with 10 runs scored, 13 RBI, three doubles, a triple and three home runs.
• Stufft finished the day 3-4 with her three long balls and five RBI.

Jayda Jones was 3-5 with three doubles and drove in four.

Savannah Simons drove in three runs going 2-5 and scored three times.
•
Adriana Mungo finished 2-4 with an RBI and scored twice.

Alyssa Herrera and
Maddie Rabe each collected a pair of hits.

Sarah Clancy got the win pitching the final 4.1 innings in relief giving up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
For the Marauders
• A. Angelo finished 2-4 with a home run and two RBI.
• K. Bumgardner was 2-3 and scored a run.
• G. Turner reached base twice with a pair of singles and drove in a run.
• A. Schaefer got the start and lasted just 2.1 innings giving up five runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Game 2 - Georgian Court 9, Millersville 3
How it Happened
• Georgian Court doubled up the Marauders in hits, 10-5. They also picked up five more extra base hits.
• On the bases, GCU stranded just a pair while Millersville left five on.
• Three batters into game two and the Lions had a lead. With one out,
Alyssa Herrera smacked a double to the opposite field, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground ball for a 1-0 lead.
• The Lions made it a 3-0 game thanks to a pair of solo home runs.
Savannah Simons led off the second going to center and
Jordan Mendolla popped one to right center.
• Millersville hit a long ball themselves in the home half of the second to cut the lead to 3-1.
• One inning later, Simons did it again going deep to left and scoring Herrera who led off the inning with a walk.
• Back-to-back RBI doubles by the Marauders made it a 5-3 game after three.
• Three straight singles plated
Jadalynn Rodriguez in the sixth. That's when Herrera decided to join in on the fun, clearing the bases with a three-run home run and a 9-3 Lions lead.
• That was all the scoring as both team's pitchers threw scoreless fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

• A. Angelo had another two hit game with a double and an RBI.
• G. Turner hit a solo home run.

• Georgian Court has won a combined five straight games, matching a season-high.
• Stufft's three home runs give her 25 for her career.
• When combining the last five innings from game one, and the first four from game two, GCU scored at least one run in nine consecutive innings.

• The Lions 15 RBI in game one are their most in a game this season.
• The four home runs in game two are also a single game high in 2023.

• The Lions were scheduled to start CACC play tomorrow afternoon at Felician. That doubleheader has been postponed with no make up yet announced. As things currently stand, the Lions next game is at home Tuesday, March 21 against CACC rival Wilmington. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
