Rabe Throws Gem in Game One of Split With Pace

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PLEASANTVILLE, NY (March 23, 2023) - After being scheduled, then postponed, then back to scheduled but starting a little late, Georgian Court Softball and Pace finally met for a doubleheader. After the Lions won a 1-0 pitcher's dual, GCU dropped game two 11-6 in six innings with the game called to darkness.

Game 1 - Georgian Court 1, Pace 0
How it Happened

• We were treated to a classic pitcher's dual in game one. There were just seven combined hits. The first hit didn't come until the third inning.
• Despite the lack of hits, Pace did have opportunities. Georgian Court pitchers walked six but every time escaped the jam.
• It started in the first when a pair of walks put runners on first and second with two outs, but Maddie Rabe got a soft fly ball to end the threat.
• In the third, Pace got the first two on, but still couldn't find that big hit. A bunt advanced runners to second and third, but a strikeout and a fly out kept the Setters off the board.
• After five scoreless innings, Jadalynn Rodriguez had had enough. She led off the sixth with a home run to left center, her first of the season.
• GCU had to make that one run hold up and Rabe and Haley Korsak did just that. Back-to-back two-out hits in the sixth put the tying run in scoring position for the Setters, but Rabe struck out K. Luna looking on a full count to end the inning.
• In the seventh, two one-out walks again put the tying run in scoring position. Korsak entered and faced just one batter. Shegot a strikeout and Adriana Mungo threw a seed down to third to get the runner trying to steal for a game-ending strike-her-out, throw-her-out double play.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Maddie Rabe got the win tossing 6.1 shutout innings. She gave up four hits and six walks but struck out five.
• Haley Korsak finished the game getting the final two outs for the save.
• Jadalynn Rodriguez supplied all the offense with a solo home run.
• Adriana Mungo and Alyssa Herrera were both 1-3.
• Jordan Mendolla walked and stole a base.

For the Setters
• G. Garcia was the hard-luck loser pitching all seven innings allowing just one run on three hits with nine strikeouts.
• C. Iturriaga reached base twice with a hit and a walk.
• K. Luna had a single and stolen base.

Game 2
How it Happened

• Georgian Court spotted the Setters five runs in the first. Janelle Blaszka struck out the leadoff hitter, but that was the only out she recorded.
• Pace followed that with a single, RBI double and back-to-back walks to load the bases. H. Rusbuldt then unloaded all of them with a grand slam giving Pace a 5-0 lead after one.
• The Lions started to chip away getting one run back in the second. Brittany Gable laced a two-out triple to right center and Savannah Simons who was hit by a pitch came in to score.
• GCU then plated three more in the third. Alyssa Herrera and Kaitlyn Stufft each knocked RBI singles and Jayda Jones drove in Simons with a sacrifice fly.
• Thanks to some sloppy defense, the Lions took the lead in the fifth. Adriana Mungo reached on an error and one batter later, Alyssa Herrera's comebacker to the pitcher was thrown away and allowed Mungo to score the tying run.
• One batter later, Kaitlyn Stufft kept one fair down the left field line as Herrera came in to give GCU a 6-5 lead.
• The Setters pulled even in the home half of the fifth. With two outs, a double and a single tied the game at six.
• Pace broke it open in the sixth. An RBI single and a bases loaded hit by pitch put Pace up 8-6. They made it 11-6 with a bases loaded, three-RBI double.
• That's when the game was called due to darkness and due to rule 6.17.1.2. the game was called with the 11-6 final.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Kaitlyn Stufft finished 2-3 with two RBI and a double.
• Jadalynn Rodriguez was 1-2 with a run scored and a walk.
• Taylor Lipkins and Adriana Mungo each scored a run.
• Savannah Simons drove in a run and scored.
• Brittany Gable tripled and drove in a run.
• Jackie Cherry pitched 4.2 innings in relief allowing five hits and one run.

For the Setters
• A. Acevedo threw all six innings allowing six runs, four earned on five hits with two strikeouts.
• S. Valle finished 3-4 with two runs scored.
• H. Rusbuldt was 3-3 with a home run and five RBI.
• A. Tejeda was 2-3 with three RBI and a double.

News and Notes
• This was the Lions second 1-0 win of the season. They also defeated West Chester 1-0 the second weekend of the season.
• The Lions didn't need to wait nearly as long for another 1-0 win as last time. This one came just 26 days apart. The one before West Chester though, GCU went 3,231 days without a 1-0 win.
• Jayda Jones took her 200th career at bat in a Lions uniform in game one.
