Lions Softball Heading Back to NCAA Regionals

LAKEWOOD, NJ (May 8, 2023) - Georgian Court Softball is going back to the NCAA Regional Tournament! The NCAA selection show aired this morning and the Lions moved up to the No. 3 spot to earn an at-large bid.

The NCAA selects 64 teams, eight teams from each of the eight regions to make up the tournament field. Each region is broken down into two sub-regions with four teams each. The sub-regions play a double-elimination tournament and the winners of the two sub-regions meet in a best-of-three series to determine a regional champion. The eight regional champions will then head to Chattanooga, Tenn. where bracket play will determine the top two teams who will then play in a best-of-three series for that National Championship.

Georgian Court is a member of the East Region. The region is comprised of teams from the CACC, Northeast-10 and ECC Conferences. The top two seeds Adelphi and Wilmington will be the hosts of the two sub regionals. The highest remaining seed will be the host of the super-regional championship series.

Georgian Court was also the No. 3 seed in last week's CACC Championship Tournament. They finished as the runner-up to Wilmington. Heading into the tournament, the Lions are 37-19. They went 18-6 in CACC play.

This is the fourth straight year with a postseason (there was no NCAA postseason play in 2020 due to COVID-19) that the Lions have made the NCAA Regional Tournament. Last season they were the No. 2 seed and host of the sub-regional and went 2-2, falling to Wilmington.

Georgian Court knows they will play No. 6 seed Franklin Pierce first in the double-elimination tournament. Game dates and times are still to be announced. The Lions and Ravens met in last years regional, a 9-1 win for GCU in six innings.
