Spector Shatters 3K Record at Fastrack Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, NY (Feb. 9, 2024) - In their final meet before next week's conference championships, Georgian Court Track and Field saw a school record fall as well as eight new personal bests.

Distance
• The big news from the afternoon came in the men's 3,000m where Kyle Spector set a new GCU school record. Heading into this season the record had stood since 2019, but that mark has now been bested twice. Xavier Seals set a new mark back in December, but his reign lasted two short months.
• Spector ran 8:46.72 to set the new record. It's nearly a nine-second personal-best and he's the first Lion to break 8:50 in the event. He finished in 36th place overall.
• Spector wasn't the only Lion to change the top-10, in fact, there were three from this event. In addition to Spector, Ryan Pettrow, who ran 9:08.16 is now fifth all-time and Joe Jamolawicz, who ran 9:38.88 is now 10th. For Pettrow it was his first time racing this distance and for Jamolawicz, it's a personal-best by more than 12 seconds.
• Thomas Rosky finished the race in 10:15.85 and Max Salgado-Vidal did so in 10:21.95.
• In the women's mile, both Amirah Beasley and Madalin Jones set big PR's. Beasley cut more than 12 seconds from her lifetime best to run 5:36.72, seventh-fastest in school history.
• Jones meanwhile set a personal-best by more than 34 seconds finishing the mile in 6:06.24.

Throws
• Malicah Etienne had a big day in the throwing circle. On his final attempt at the shot put, Etienne set a new personal-best throwing 53-9.25 which is third all-time at GCU and put him second in the competition. He bettered his personal-best by more than three feet and it was his best throw of the day by more than two.
• Robbie Babson didn't get off a legal mark in the shot put, but made up for it later in the weight throw. He set a new personal-best throwing 51-0, nearly a three-foot PR and finished seventh overall. He also moved to fifth on the Lions best-of list.
• Anthony Lorenzo threw 33-0.75 in the shot put to place 42nd and was 35th in the weight at 34-7.
• Only Chimaka Wokocha threw for the women. She competed in the weight throw taking 34th place at 35-10.

Jumps
• Adzakro also competed in the long jump where she hit a mark of 16-6 which put her in 16th place. Her best jump was her very first of the day.
• In his very first competition as a Lion, Matthew Sutton jumped into the all-time top-10 in the triple jump. His mark of 41-1.75 put him 27th in the event and is ninth all-time at GCU.

Sprints and Hurdles
• Shalom Adzakro was the Lions only hurdler on the day. She finished in 22nd in the 60m hurdles running 9.58.
• In the sprints, Samantha Lonseth finished the 60m dash in 9.26.
• Molly Burns ran twice, competing the 200m and 400m. She set a personal-best in the 200m running 28.46 and completed the 400m in 1:06.84.
• Also in the 400m, Aaliyah Thorpe led GCU running 1:03.63. Niya Barden finished in 1:04.39 and Selma Cazimoska had a personal-best time of 1:10.64.
• For the men, Ivan Ramos-Lopez ran 7.59 in his first-ever 60m dash at GCU. Nicholas Jordan ran a PR time of 7.72 and Joshua Tipaldo finished in 8.05.
• Moving up to the 200m, Wayne Robinson finished 26th running 22.54.
• There were three Lions in the 400m. Seth Powell ran 53.30, James McCoy 53.44 and Alexander Dejean 56.48.

Next up for Georgian Court is the ECC Championships. They'll be right back on Staten Island at Ocean Breeze Sunday, Feb. 18 for the conference meet.
