Track and Field Battles Conditions at Golden Ram Invite

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 8, 2024) - It was an afternoon filled with all sorts of weather from sun to hail to wind that Georgian Court Track and Field had to battle through. The Lions took part in the Golden Ram Invitational, hosted by West Chester, Saturday afternoon and had a good day overall despite all the conditions.

Sprints/Relays
• Molly Burns led the Lion women in both the 100m and 200m dashes. She set a new personal-best at 200m running 28.12 for third place. She took eight in the 100m running 13.78.
• Aaliyah Thorpe ran her first 100m race, finishing ninth in 13.99.
• Leela McConnell and Samantha Lonseth finished 11th and 12th at 100m running 14.38 and 14.78, respectively. Selma Cazimoska and Lonseth were back-to-back in the 200m with Cazimoska running 29.87 and Lonseth 30.72 for sixth and seventh place. Cazimoska was also 12th in the 400m running 1:15.
• On the men's side, they put six in both the 100m and 200m. Ivan Ramos-Lopez led the way at 100m running 11.74 for ninth place. Nicholas Jordan followed in 11th place running 11.89 and Matthew Sutton was 13th in 11.93. Brian Barnes took 17th place in 12.08, James McCoy was 19th in 12.21 and Joshua Tipaldo was 22nd in 12.70.
• There were a number of personal-bests at 200m. Seth Powell moved to sixth all-time at GCU running 23.16, good for ninth place overall. Jordan had a personal-best time of 23.82 to place 18th. Barnes' PR time of 24.51 put him 25th. McCoy finished in 30th place running 24.89, Alexander Dejean was 34th in 25.98 and Tipaldo 36th in 26.30.
• Powell had a nice day at 400m as well running 52.99 for eighth place, giving him two top-10 finishes. Sean Donnamaria was 13th running 54.26.
• Georgian Court's Men's 4x400m relay team of Dejean, Jordan, Vidal and Rosky took sixth place running 4:49.49.

Distance
• Kyle Spector took first place in the 3,000m steeplechase. He ran 10:03.71. He then later paced the 5K crew and ran 16:21.88 himself for second place.
• Spector helped push Ryan Pettrow to a win in the 5K in 16:20.81, which is sixth all-time at Georgian Court.
• Joseph Jamolawicz finished third in 16:41.15.
• At 1500m, Max Salgado-Vidal was the event winner running 4:27.58. Thomas Rosky was third in 4:32.22.
• GCU had another event winner in the women's 800m where Amirah Beasley ran 2:26.56. Niya Bardne was second in 2:35.13 and Madalin Jones hit an outdoor personal-best 2:42.70 for sixth place.

Jumps
• In the women's long jump, Ingrid Rivera-Zuniga finished fourth jumping 15-0. Malama Toure was sixth hitting 14-10.5
• Sean Donnamaria and Ivan Ramos-Lopez finished third and fourth in the pole vault. Donnamaria cleared 11-9.75 while Ramos-Lopez got over 10-10.

Throws
• The Lions had event winners in two men's throwing events. Malicah Etienne took first in the shot put with an outdoor personal-best throw of 49-7.75. Robbie Babson was second throwing 48-9.
• Thomas Menegus also set a personal-best throwing the shot 39-7.75 for fifth place. Anthony Lorenzo was ninth throwing 35-11.25.
• Babson was the winner of the hammer throw with a mark of 153-4. Lorenzo was eighth throwing 94-7.
• Etienne finished second in the discus with his throw of 150-0. Menegus took sixth throwing 105-9.
• The Lion women also had two event winners in the throws. Ava Reardon won the javelin with her toss of 109-4. Sheridan Martinez was right behind in second at 109-0. Ingrid Rivera-Zuniga threw a PR 96-3 for sixth place.
• Chiamaka Wokocha was the winner in the discus with er mark of 117-9. She finished second in the hammer throw as well at 132-5.
• Sabrina Halk and Reardon were back-to-back in the discus in sixth and seventh place. Halk threw a PR 94-7 and Reardon threw 89-7. Halk also took 10th place in the hammer throw with her mark of 77-0.
• Rivera-Zuniga threw 32-2.25 for a fifth place finish in the shot put. 

Georgian Court Track and Field will get a break from competition this weekend. They'll be back in action next Wednesday, April 17 for the Mid-Week Invitational, hosted by Shippensburg.
