LAKEWOOD, NJ (Jan. 9, 2024) - Georgian Court Director of Athletics Dan Sempkowski announced the promotion of
Mikayla Pourby to the position of Interim Head Softball Coach. Pourby spent last season on the Lions bench as an assistant coach, working primarily with the pitchers.
"I'm confident in Mikaya's ability to lead the program during this time, said Sempkowski. "This promotion allows for consistency within the coaching staff. Mikayla's built a good rapport with the team throughout her time here and with the proper guidance I feel she can be an excellent head coach."
Pourby is a 2023 graduate of SUNY Cortland where she played her senior season. She spent her first three years playing at East Stroudsburg where she set freshman records as a two-way player. Her four home runs set an ESU rookie record and her 24 RBI matched the most ever by a freshman. In the circle, she also led the Warriors in wins, complete games, innings pitched, shutouts and batting average against. Her 11 wins were the second-most by a freshman in program history and her 76 strikeouts the fourth-most ever by a freshman. Additionally, in the classroom Pourby was a member of the President's list at both ESU and Cortland.
"I'm very thankful for this opportunity, said Pourby. I'm excited to once again work with the group that we have coming back and the new student-athletes that we brought in. We have a great group of student-athletes, coaches and staff at Georgian Court and I look forward to putting a product on the field that everyone can be proud of. It's a great time to be a Lion. I think we have a great group and I can't wait for the team to be back on campus so we can get to work."
Pourby grew up in Binghamton, NY and played at Binghamton High School where she was nationally ranked and made the All-State team, graduating in 2018.
In addition to coaching, Pourby is a Tournament Site Director for USSSA Softball. She also is a pitching instructor at EL1 in Hainesport, NJ.
