UNIONVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2025) - It was a great day for Georgian Court Cross Country as they saw massive improvements across the board, running for the second time in Unionville, Pa. this season. It was an especially great day for freshman
Sophia Mauro, who was the individual champion in the women's 5,000m.
Mauro led a field of 45 across the finish line in 20:48.7. That's more than two minutes faster than she ran this course back in September. Mauro becomes the first Lion to win a cross country race since Kaitlyn Bragan was the CACC Championship winner back in 2019. Her time also moves her to 14th at Georgian Court in the women's 5K on the cross country course going back to 2002.Â
Mauro helped the Lions to a third place finish among seven teams. Another GCU freshman,
Nora Sprunger also finished in the top-10. She ran 23:08.0 for ninth place. Two spots behind Sprunger was
Brenna Sullivan. Her time of 23:38.1 was good for 11th place. Sprunger, too, was roughly two minutes faster than her time from the Lions first meet of the season in Unionville while Sullivan was almost three minutes faster.
Rounding out the team for the Lions was
Samantha Lonseth and
Kerry Ann Hohenshilt who finished back-to-back in 27th and 28th place. Lonseth ran 25:48.7 and Hohenshilt 26:12.5. Both girls ran season-best 5K times and improved their time from this course at the start of the season. Lonseth did so by more than three full minutes.Â
Lincoln (PA) was the team champions scoring 37 points. The Lions totaled 70.
The men also had an outstanding morning. Like the women, they finished in third place as well and also scored 70 points. In the field of 59 runners, GCU had two in the top-10.
Ryan Pettrow led the Lions running a 5K personal-best 16:16.3 to finish in fourth place. That's almost two minutes faster than his time from earlier this season. Also in the top-10 was
Zachary Spoonire. He improved by about 50 seconds running 16:41.2 and finishing in ninth place.
GCU had two-more in the top-20.
Matthew Schaub and
Luke McCormick both ran personal-best times. Schaub finished 16th finishing the race in 17:31.0. McCormick took 19th in 18:03.8. Schaub shaved nearly a minute off of his time from September while McCormick improved by two minutes.
Colin Broadbelt was the final scorer for the Lions. He finished in 26th place running 18:40.0 which is a personal-best and bettered his time on this course by nearly three minutes.
Stephen Lane ran his first collegiate 5K race with the Lions and finished behind Broadbelt in 28th place running 18:48.0Â
CACC foe Goldey-Beacom won the team title on the men's side. They totaled 41 points. Nura Mumed of Coppin State was the individual champion running 15:51.9, the only runner in the field to break 16 minutes.
Georigan Court has one final regular season meet left on the schedule. They race next Saturday, Oct. 18 in the Rowan Border Battle.Â
