NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 14, 2025) - Georgian Court Cross Country freshman
Sophia Mauro did something that hadn't been done in more than five years this past Saturday. Mauro won the West Chester Golden Ram Invitational for the Lions and for her efforts has been named both the CACC Runner and Rookie of the Week.
This was the second time Georgian Court competed on the West Chester course this season. This time around, Mauro improved her time by more than two minutes as she led a field of 45 runners with her time of 20:48.7. She had to hold off a furious kick at the end, but had enough left in the tank to break the tape.Â
Mauro is the first Lion to win a women's cross country race since Kaitlyn Bragan in 2019 who won the CACC Championship race. Her 20:48.7 time is a season-best in the 5K and has her 14th all-time at GCU in the NCAA-era.
Georgian Court has one final regular season meet left on the schedule. That takes place this Saturday, Oct. 18 when GCU travels for the Rowan Border Battle.Â
