Alex Elliott has signed a deal with the Monterey Amberjacks of the Pecos Independent League.
Elliott made his debut with the Amberjacks Tuesday, May 27th, going 3-5 with a single and two doubles while starting at first base.
With the Lions in their inaugural season, Elliott led the team in at bats and with 50 hits. Playing mostly in the outfield, Elliott picked up eight doubles, three home runs, 25 RBI and scored a team-high 32 runs.Â
The Pecos League was founded in 2010 and operates in cities in desert mountain regions throughout California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas. The league season is highly condensed and while schedules vary, teams have played as many as 70 games in 72 days or 80 games in three months.Â
Currently, the Pecos League consists of 16 teams. Elliott's team, the Monterey Amberjacks, are one of six from the state of California. They began playing in 2017 and play their home games at Frank E. Sollecito, Jr. Ballpark surrounded by Lake El Estero, with the beach at Monterey Bay Park a short distance beyond the left field fence.
