LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 21, 2025) - Before the start of the fast-approaching 2025 volleyball season, the American Volleyball Coaches Assocition (AVCA) took a step back to honor those teams from 2024 for their outstanding work in the classroom. The AVCA released their Team Academic Awards, a list Georgian Court earned a spot on.
To receive an AVCA Team Academic Award, volleyball teams must maintain a year-long grade-point average of at least a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. For the 2024-25 academic year, Georgian Court Volleyball's team GPA was a 3.45.
This is the Lions seventh AVCA Team Academic Award. All seven have come in the last eight years.Â
This year, the AVCA set a new record as 1,450 collegiate and high school volleyball teams earned the Academic Award. "It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom," says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes."
Of Georgian Court's 21 student-athletes on the 2024 roster, 18 maintained a GPA of at least a 3.0. There were 12 with at least a 3.50 and seven at 3.75 or higher.Â
