NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 8, 2026) - Georgian Court Track and Field this week continued to rack up CACC weekly awards. The Lions earned four more this week, putting their total at nine through the first three weeks of the season.
The Lions picked up both the men's and women's Field Athletes of the Week and the men's and women's Field Rookies of the Week with their performances at the Millersville Metrics last weekend.Â
The Men's Field Rookie of the Week went to
Chuck Smith. He jumped a season-best 20-3.75 this week in the long jump which has him fifth in the CACC and is the top mark among freshman.
On the women's side it was
Sigurlaug Sveinsdottir who took home the Field Rookie of the Week honor for second time this season. Sveinsdottir competed in three field events. She finished sixth overall in the shot put throwing 36-2 and was 11th in the long jump at 15-4.75. While those weren't her best marks this season, she is in the top-two in the CACC in both of those events. She picked up a new event this week, throwing the hammer throw for the first time. She finished 12th in the meet throwing 110-3 which is a CACC qualifier and has her eighth in the conference.
For the first time this outdoor season,
Mark Linton was selected as the Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Surprisingly, Linton didn't set any personal or school records this week, but he did win two events at Millersville. He won the discus throwing 171-11 which is a season-best mark and not only leads the conference, but is an NCAA provisional qualifying throw. Linton was also the winner of the hammer throw, an event he also leads the CACC in, throwing 171-3 this week. For the first time this outdoor season, Linton threw the shot put and immediately put himself third in the CACC with a throw of 48-1.25, which placed him fifth overall at Millersville.Â
It's now back-to-back weeks that
Chiamaka Wokocha is the CACC Field Athlete of the Week. She finished in fourth place in both the discus and hammer throw at Millersville. Wokocha set a new personal-best in the hammer throw with her throw of 164-2 which leads the CACC and moved her to fourth all-time in Lions history. Wokocha also had a season-best throw in the discus of 128-4 which has her third in that event this season in the CACC.Â
GCU also put four more on the weekly Honor Roll -
Shalom Adzakro,
Daizhae' Brown,
Ryan Pettrow and
Barone Vankline.Â
